New email System

Assalamualaikum and Very Good Day

Dear All,

Pls be informed that ICT is implementing new email system called Zimbra
which is better than the current Openwebmail. It has groupware features such
as shared calender and group scheduling/call for meeting,instant messaging,
tasks and briefcase.

Every staff is given 1 GB storage (openmwebail is only 100MB).

Pls login using your current network id and password in the following url:

http://email.unitar.edu.my

Everyone is urged to use this new email system starting today since ICT is
doing the pilot testing now to see whether our existing server can take up
the actual load.

Pls forward your current email to this new email system by going to "Pref"
in the Openwebmail and fill in "Forward email to" using your new email (for
example) id "matnor@email.unitar.edu.my". Your incoming emails will be
forwarded to the new email system.

You can send and receive emails (from your current id) using the new email
system.

The pilot test will be done for about a month after which the current
Openwebmail service will be terminated and all the email ids will be updated
to userid@unitar.edu.my automatically.

Pls do not hesitate to call us (Syikin 7237, Zulhazmi 2004, Zahirah 2005,
Matnor 2001) if you need any assistance.

ICT will conduct a daily clinic for a week on this new email system after
Hari Raya for those who need help or hands-on training in using the email
system.

A Month Full of Unity and Patriotism at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak

Celebrating 51 years of the beloved Malaysia's independence, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Pintar Campus has been filled with the true spirit of unity where students and staff of the University gathered together during the launching of the Merdeka month celebration in a true reflection of a multi-racial and multi-cultural society living in harmony.

The highlight of the day was the Merdeka sharing session with three remarkable figure in Malaysia's socio-politic scene, Tan Sri Datuk Seri (Dr.) Aishah Ghani, Emeritus Profesor Tan Sri Dr. Khoo Kay Kim and Dato' S. Veerasingam.

Sharing their view on the topic of Perpaduan dalam Membentuk Kesejahteraan Malaysia, the session begins with Tan Sri Aishah Ghani reminding the audience on the importance of unity in the fast moving information technology era where people tend to disregard aspect of living in harmony.

As a former cabinet minister and Malaysia 's first woman senator, Tan Sri Aishah call for students to be proactively involve in various academics and extra curricular activities to foster better relationship between different community and ethnic group.

Profesor Tan Sri Dr. Khoo Kay Kim later shared his opinion on how Malaysia can sustain to be the model of multi racial nation which can be achieved through instilling and educating young mind on the value of living in peace and harmony.

Being the nation's expert historian, he added that love and passion is the true driving force that could bring our country to another level of success, in the field of socio-politic and economy.

Dato' S. Veerasingam then took over the stage and touched on a lot of issues pertaining to national unity and reminded the audience of the struggle that our warriors have went through just to ensure we are free from being colonized.

His speech also brought the audience's attention to the fact that unity would be impossible to be achieved without great mutual understanding and tolerant between different ethnic groups.

In his welcoming speech before the session begin, President and Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Datuk Dr. Md. Zabid Hj Abd. Rashid said he is delighted with the month long Merdeka celebration as the audience in general should try to understand the deeper meaning of independence while taking chance to particpate in the activities been planned for the programme.

Prof. Zabid then called on students to reflect on the country's success in their study and be thankful that Malaysian of all races, religions and cultures had come together to build one country and one nation a Malaysia that has become a model for success; a task which took the country 51 years to achieve.

We must be thankful for the prosperity enjoyed by so many of us, prosperity which is still just a dream to people in many countries in the world, he added.

Thanking the three guests for the meaningful session, Prof. Zabid then presented them with token of appreciation from the University and later distributed Jalur Gemilang to the deans of faculties.

The programme ended with a sing-along session of Negaraku and Perpaduan Teras Kejayaan , the theme song of Malaysia 's 51 st Merdeka celebration which was led by Duta Budaya, choir consist of the University's student.

Other activities for the celebration are Merdeka cake decoration, poetry writing competition, Merdeka info treasure hunt and a Mini Merdeka Gallery. A group of 40 students of the University will also be participating in a special dance, Komponen Rakyat Bersepadu in Dataran Merdeka on the 31 st August 2008 during the National Level Merdeka Day Parade.

Closing ceremony of the month long Merdeka celebration is schedule on the 29 th August 2008, with a highlight of a special session, Erti Merdeka with the University's Pro Chancellor, Tun Ahmad Sarji bin Abdul Hamid.

Small deed makes many – A moment of appreciation to Seri Mengasih Volunteers 2008

3rd September 2008, Wed – It was a spontaneous reaction - UNITAR Sabah students had always been very supportive and keen in participating and lending a helping hand to annually organized Seri Mengasih fund raising programs. As a token of appreciation, a short certificate presentation session was organized at SIDMA College.

In his welcoming speech before the session began, SIDMA College CEO, Prof.Dr Morni Hj.Kambrie expressed his warm appreciation to all student volunteers for their noble gestures by constantly supporting Seri Mengasih in their effort to raise fund for the centre. "We are glad and proud to have such compassionate and enthusiastic students in our university and hope that this noble culture will continue in the future, who knows what wonderful effects our small actions might have. He continued, "We would always be pleased to extend our helping hands and will try our best to do whatever we can whenever necessary to Seri Mengasih and other non-governmental charitable bodies".

Prof. Dr. Morni also took the opportunity to extend his warm welcome to Mr Ngo York Kong, Seri Mengasih CEO, the program chairman, Ms. Joanne Sario, and the program committee, Ms. Clare Singoon for coming to SIDMA to personally present the certificate of appreciation and participation to the student volunteers. Thanking the three guests and as a token of appreciation for the momentous session, Prof. Dr Mornie, accompanied by Ms.Mary Monica Jiony, SIDMA College COO, then presented the guests with souvenirs on behalf of the University.

Mr Ngo York Kong, Seri Mengasih CEO in his speech, expressed his note of gratitude and appreciation to UNITAR Sabah for the constant support and assistance contributed during the programs organized by the centre. He hoped that with the support and assistance rendered by UNITAR Sabah, public and other private organizations would be more aware of the existence of the non government and charitable body such as Seri Mengasih centre in Sabah. "The support would certainly help a great deal in future." he concluded.

Also present during the ceremony were the Head of departments, staff and the Majlis Perwakilan Mahasiswa/I (MPM) representatives.The program ended with souvenir presentation from Seri Mengasih to SIDMA College, photo taking sessions with students and later a tour of the University for the guests by the staff from Centre for Student Development.
